On a very foundational level, writing is about communication. And blogging makes written communication easy, immediate, and interactive. The art of blogging has always seemed somewhat foreign to me, but once I started doing it, I found that it was a great way to enter the conversation.

The Sweetland Minor in Writing has an online student blog. Throughout the semester, we blogged about our different writing styles, processes, and experiences. I would blog about my struggles regarding a project, and one of my classmates would respond with encouragement (and sometimes a great solution). Then, I would try to reciprocate the favor by responding to another classmate's post. This cycle turned the blog into a great medium for discussion and support.

If you peruse my personal Minor in Writing blog archive, you will see my evolution as a blogger. My first post consisted of a large, clunky, ugly paragraph about my writing process. But by my last post, I had learned to incorporate pictures and GIFs. I also found a more conversational blogging tone and discovered the "enter" key and its ability to separate paragraphs (it's like magic).

If you're so inclined, also check out my internship blog. This past summer, I interned at WCVB-TV (more commonly known as ABC) in Boston. I wrote a series of blog posts about my experience as a sports department intern. I discuss several classic internship experiences, such as:

  • Relationships with supervisors

  • Awkward first days

  • Observing the culture

  • Sitting around

  • Getting creative in finding ways to be useful

  • Learning about an industry (or as some like to call it: "the real world")

This particular blog post called "Changing Perspectives" was featured in the LSA Internship Program Newsletter.
